Laptop hard drive failures are common, and we have the tools and experience needed to work on these delicate components. You can view an actual laptop hard drive recovery performed in our clean room by clicking HERE. ACS Data Recovery can perfom data recovery services on any model laptop hard drive, including 1.8-inch hard drives. While most of these drives are found in laptop computers, they are also commonly found in many portable storage devices, like external hard drives and even IPOD's. There are many different reasons for hard drive failures in laptops. A few of the most common are

  • Overheating
  • Spindle motor failure
  • Head crash
  • Heads seizing to the platter

Toshiba hard drives commonly suffer from motor failures, where the drive just will not spin up, or spins very slowly. You may just hear a soft ticking sound coming from the drive. Hitachi drives most often suffer head failures, in which we must take the drive into our clean room and swap out the head stack assembly, in order to image the drives. Head failures typically will manifest themselves by a clicking sound.
